Sofia History Museum is opening its permanent exhibition on 17th September 2015 officially. The long-awaited event and the Day of Sofia will be celebrated with a special evening programme on 1 "Banski" Sq, prepared by the Museum.
The permanent exhibition of Sofia History Museum will be officially opened on the feast of the capital - 17th September 2015. The Museum is located on 1 "Banski" Sq (the former building of the Central Mineral Baths) and on this day the doors will be opened from 10 am to 10 pm.
Sofia History Museum was founded in 1928. In short, during the Second World War, the permanent exhibition was opened in a building on 3 "Banski" Sq. However, the building was destroyed during the bombing in 1943. Since then the Museum has been looking for its own place.
In 2015, the Museum symbolically returned to "Banski" Sq again, this time in the renovated and adapted building of the former Central Mineral Baths. Here you can see eight different halls of the permanent exhibition revealing the history of Sofia between sixth millennium BC and the '40s of XX c.
The permanent exhibition is divided in halls, as follows: Ancient Heritage, The Strength of the Spirit, The Dynastic Connection of the Bulgarian Monarchy to Western Europe, The Palace Study, A street in Sofia, State and Municipal Institutions, Homes and Clothing of Citizens of Sofia, Cultural Life and Entertainment.
Among the most valuable exhibits are: glass container type "Vase diatreta", frescoes and icons from the Sofia Little Mount Athos, old books, Golden chariot, clock donated to Prince Ferdinand by Queen Victoria, bike type "Spider", Mercedes car, "Golden Book of Sofia", a collection of toys and many others.
On the occasion of the official opening of the Museum and the celebration of the Day of Sofia - 17 September, Sofia History Museum provided a festive program. It includes:
- 21 pm - Official Opening;
- 22 pm - Fiery Spectacle;
- 22:45 pm. - 3D Mapping;
- 23 pm - Fireworks Show;
