„Portuguese identity: architecture in context” is an exhibition, which presents the achievements of Portuguese architecture in the last 50 years. Creations of architects of that period are classified as globally significant. The beginning of the rise of modern Portuguese architecture was set by Alvaro Siza Vieira in the 60's and 70`s of XX century. His works are considered combinations of modern methods and local traditions and attract the attention of many foreign specialists.
Subsequently they began to talk about specific Portuguese architecture and the term „critical regionalism” was introduced. Next generations of Portuguese architects work according to this approach.
This exhibition presents projects of architects from different generations who work in the Portuguese context and gives an overview of contemporary Portuguese architecture. Projects are of different types - administrative, residential, infrastructure, renovations and more. For the exhibition were selected 11 emblematic projects of Portuguese contemporary architecture. Every participiant has chosen a project, which represents most accurately their own artistic approach to the Portuguese context. The works are presented through plans, photographs, text and models.
The exhibition „Portuguese identity: architecture in context” can be seen between March 9 to 20 in Sofia History Museum.
